I have heard this statement countless times in an utterly baffling attempt to somehow try to discredit me for my simply asking questions. The implication of this usually shouted assertion is that because the GFA has an Audit Committee, it is therefore impossible for any financial hanky-panky to be going on. Here is the fundamental problem with this ridiculous assertion:
Do you know who else had Audit Committees? In this country alone and just off the top of my “stoopid” (Hi, andie cullen!! 👋 👋 👋 ) head:
Bernie Madoff of Madoff Investments had an Audit Committee.
HealthSouth had an Audit Committee.
Tyco had an Audit Committee.
Arthur Anderson had an Audit Committee.
Adelphia Communications had an Audit Committee.
WorldCom had an Audit Committee.
Enron had an Audit Committee.
And literally LEAGUES of scandal-ridden international operators had Audit Committees, too. But what still happened? These organizations all went down in disastrous blazes of glory, brought on by shenanigans and mismanagement that their much-vaunted Audit Committees either did not uncover or turned a blind eye to. History has proven time and time again that merely having an Audit Committee is absolutely NOOOOOO guarantee that there is not something improper going on. It is only by making information readily available for the independent eyes of legitimately concerned party’s to peruse and their minds to digest that the validity of any Audit Committee can be legitimately verified. Whilst Audit Committees are certainly great, they absolutely do NOT provide any sort of ironclad guarantee that improper events are not occurring. But the deliberate, continuous and wholly unexplained suppression of the simple dissemination information which should be readily and freely available to ANYONE who not just chooses to, but is compelled to financially support a governing body by that very same governing body, ought to at the very least raise the interest of every rational, free-thinking Member of the group being “governed”.
If there is nothing to hide, then simply stop hiding.
Could ANYTHING be simpler?
