The "We've Always Done It That Way" Problem:

Genuinely Effective Leadership is always based on sound reasoning. The notion that something should always be as it always has been, simply because it has always been that way, is not only ludicrous, it's actually quite harmful, IMHO. Think for a moment about our shared Human History, please:

  • Our more distant ancestors actually used to eat each other. Why? "Because we have always done it that way!!"

  • Later, girls were often married and bearing children in their early to mid-teens. Why? "Because we have always done it that way!!"

  • Our more recent Founding Fathers actually owned other Human Beings. Why? "Because we have always done it that way!!"

  • Our very recent forefathers denied women and minorities the ability to vote. Why? "Because we have always done it that way!!"

If "Because we have always done it that way" was anything even close to reasonable, we would all still be living in caves and throwing feces at each other, while bashing women on the head with clubs and then dragging their unconscious bodies back to our caves to rape them, "Because we had always done it that way!!" This is obviously insane. Change might be difficult for some, might even be scary for many, especially as they age. But evolution is impossible without being brave enough to at least attempt to change, and to put in the rubbish bin the absolutely rubbish idea of, "Because we have always done it that way!!"

We really CAN do MUCH better.

Thank you very much for your DEEPLY appreciated support in 2019, 2020, and beyond!! :-)
